Post traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
If something horrible and scary happens to you or you see it happens
to someone and you feel that you have no control over what is happening,
it can occur an an anxiety disorder, known as Posttraumatic Stress
Disorder. Traumatic events that may trigger PTSD include violent
personal assaults, natural or human-caused disasters, accidents,
or military combat. Most people who go through a traumatic event
have some symptoms at the beginning. Yet only some will develop
Post traumatic Stress Disorder.
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Therapy
Effective treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder are available.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is one type of counseling. There
are different types of cognitive behavioral therapies such as cognitive
therapy and exposure therapy. A similar kind of posttraumatic stress
disorder therapy called EMDR, or eye movement desensitization and
reprocessing, is also used for PTSD. Medications can be effective
too. A type of drug known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor
(SSRI), is effective for PTSD. The most prescriped SSRIs medications
are Zoloft (generic name Sertraline)
and Prozac (Fluoxetine).
Only a physician can decide which therapy is the right for you!
